{"id":121052,"date":"2022-01-06T00:46:29","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T06:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/uncategorized\/build-engage-monetize-social-media\/"},"modified":"2022-03-12T12:34:19","modified_gmt":"2022-03-12T18:34:19","slug":"build-engage-monetize-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/build-engage-monetize-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Build, Engage &#038; Monetize Your Social Media Following In 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image largeScreensOnly\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1267814_Blog-Featured_IMG4_1280x720_122921.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-87841\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Social media marketing can be a massively useful tool for <em>all<\/em> businesses \u2013 big and small \u2013 to utilize for generating more income and growing their loyal fanbase of followers\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you want to really <strong>use social media marketing to your advantage<\/strong>, then it\u2019s going to take a bit more strategizing than simply throwing up a few posts every now and then.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, I\u2019m going to share <strong>my top tips &amp; proven strategies<\/strong> for generating more likes, comments, leads, <em>and sales<\/em> from your social media content marketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now these tips will apply no matter what social media platform you prefer to use \u2013 and no, I\u2019m not suggesting that you have to be active on them all.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, I\u2019m suggesting the exact opposite!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pick the platform(s) you genuinely enjoy using the most, and stick to those ones <em>only<\/em>. In my experience, that\u2019s<strong> guaranteed to give you the best results<\/strong> simply because you aren\u2019t \u201cforcing\u201d yourself to show up on a platform that you don\u2019t enjoy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which makes showing up consistently much, much, <em>much<\/em> easier!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So whether your platform of choice is LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or Tik Tok\u2026 utilizing the <em>correct<\/em> social media strategies in your business is a smart move to make.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not just because these platforms can build your brand awareness and grow your reach\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also because, with literally<a href=\"https:\/\/dustinstout.com\/social-media-statistics\/\"> billions of active daily users<\/a>, social media is one of the best places to reach ALL of your business goals\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With social media you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Generate new leads<\/li><li>Drive more traffic to your website<\/li><li>Raise brand awareness&nbsp;<\/li><li>Cash in on conversions &amp; have bigger launches&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Which all sounds pretty epic, right?&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>But what does \u201csocial media marketing\u201d <\/strong><strong><em>actually<\/em><\/strong><strong> entail?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Well the short answer is &#8211; <em>anything<\/em> that drives audience engagement!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because here\u2019s the thing\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is absolutely <em>no doubt <\/em>that social media is<strong> a great place<\/strong> to generate new leads, build brand awareness, and cash in on serious conversions\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just as simple as haphazardly throwing up a post every now and then, cramming your caption with hashtags, or asking people to sign up for your email list or buy your products &amp; services\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to remember that<strong> #1 purpose of social media <\/strong>has always been, <em>and will always be<\/em>, to build relationships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So your social media strategy needs to be <strong>focused on relationship building<\/strong> first and foremost.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s right &#8211; your primary focus should not be to make more sales\u2026 it should be to make more loyal fans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So to do that, you really want to be thinking of things like\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Engaging captions, images &amp; videos<\/li><li>Reels<\/li><li>Tik-toks<\/li><li>Going LIVE with your audience<\/li><li>Posting polls &amp; quizzes<\/li><li>Doing Q&amp;As<\/li><li>And honestly the list goes on and on!&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And of course &#8211;<strong> paid advertising, promotional posts, sponsored content, and user generated content<\/strong> does play a big role in social media marketing\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But those should all come into the picture <em>after<\/em> you\u2019ve done the front work into building relationships and trust with your audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s break that all down a bit more\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Engaging Content&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I know this might sound a bit obvious, but it\u2019s a mistake that I see a lot of people making on social media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If every post you make is asking people to buy something from you or sign up for your email list, you\u2019re definitely going to drive away A LOT of followers and massively hurt your engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from the fact that<strong> people on social media like<\/strong> to stay on social media (and not click out to other sites or links).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social media platforms<em> really like<\/em> their users to stay put. Which means the algorithm doesn\u2019t favor posts that drive engagement <em>away<\/em> from the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By constantly including a CTA in your posts to click a link or visit a website (which means less likes and comments on the post itself), you\u2019re inadvertently hurting your reach because platforms like Instagram only continue to show your posts to followers if people are actively engaging with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yikes\u2014bummer right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So a good rule of thumb is to give your followers what they came for\u2014inspiration, education, or entertainment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like to make sure my posts always follow what I call the \u201cFour Pillars\u201d of social media content: Promotional, educational, personal, and engagement\/relatability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Promotional Posts<\/strong>: You\u2019re clearly promoting your product or service to your audience. This is what you might think of as more \u201ctraditional marketing\u201d.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Educational Posts<\/strong>: You\u2019re delivering mad value in the form of free education or inspiration.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Personal Posts<\/strong>: You\u2019re building rapport with your audience. Letting them know more about you, your personal story, your quirks, likes, and all the things you might think are \u201cirrelevant\u201d to your business!<\/li><li><strong>Engagement Posts<\/strong>: Your opportunity to engage with your audience, ask them questions, and uncover their needs, wants, &amp; desires.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I break down these four pillars in more detail\u2014including examples AND swipe copy for you to use\u2014in my free Cheatsheet for writing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexcattoni.com\/smg\">Click Worthy Captions &amp; CTAs<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now a good rule of thumb is to keep these posts on a consistent cycle. So if you post 4 days\/week, you would post a different pillar each day, rinse, and repeat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, your audience won\u2019t get tired of seeing the same promotional content over and over\u2026 and over again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s another<strong> HOT TIP<\/strong>: Remember that you should be posting some of your most valuable content on social media\u2014yes for free!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially if you\u2019re in the beginning stages of building out your audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should be focused more on<strong> forming relationships, delivering value, building trust, and getting people really excited<\/strong> about following you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, once you\u2019ve done this <em>very important front end work<\/em>, you can start thinking about the second phase of social media marketing\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img1.niftyimages.com\/click\/6y5\/d3xh\/0a7h\" data-type=\"URL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img1.niftyimages.com\/6y5\/d3xh\/0a7h\"><\/a><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Paid Advertising &amp; Promotional Posts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where your mad copywriter skills can really come in handy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I mean sure, social media is \u201ctechnically\u201d content sharing, which means there is A LOT of content writing involved\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when you\u2019re utilizing your social media platform(s) to generate leads and gain more conversions \u2014 copywriting principles are essential!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Write compelling hooks<\/li><li>Make sure your captions and ads have good flow &amp; are easy to read<\/li><li>Pay attention to formatting<\/li><li>And never skip a call to action (CTA).&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Every caption or ad you post on social media should follow the ABCs of copywriting basics \u2013 and yes, I like to write ALL my ads<em> just like<\/em> I would write a promotional caption:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Attention<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, they need to get ATTENTION, with a great graphic and compelling hook or headline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On social media, your hook is the very first sentence of your caption. If your first sentence isn\u2019t captivating, then the reader won\u2019t tap \u201cMore\u201d\u2026 and your amazing caption or CTA doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2.&nbsp; Big Promise<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, they need to provide a BENEFIT or BIG PROMISE&nbsp; in the form of education, entertainment or inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have your readers\u2019 attention, you need to keep it! This is done by implementing great storytelling, content or wisdom, and opening loops throughout your caption.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always make sure your caption delivers on the hook you opened with! Nobody got time for clickbait captions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Close<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>And lastly, they need a strong CLOSE.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They need to give people one clear and concise CALL-TO-ACTION.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because \u2013 remember the #1 rule in copywriting (and all of marketing for that matter)&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you want your audience to take action, you need to tell them exactly what you want them to do!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that every single CTA is an opportunity for lead generation or conversion.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And no, that doesn\u2019t mean that every CTA should be \u201cbuy from me\u201d or \u201cdownload this\u201d or \u201csign up here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fun thing about social media is that you get to be super creative with your CTAs to increase engagement and have conversations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of a post explaining <strong>how to write better headlines<\/strong>, my CTA at the bottom might say something like \u201cDo YOU want to learn how to write better headlines? Comment YES or NO below!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a really simple, and effective way I could gain new leads on this CTA would be by simply following up with every person that comments \u201cYES\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, I have a free headline writing guide that I could send you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the new lead downloads the guide, they\u2019ll be added to my mailing list and just like that, I\u2019ve got a new lead that may turn into a customer if they find value from my free content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way of utilizing this \u201cback door\u201d strategy for lead generation, is using the CTA to ask an engaging question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a post about <strong>starting your own copywriting business<\/strong>, my CTA might be \u201cTell me, what\u2019s holding you back from STARTING?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The comments here would likely have a big range of answers that you can directly reply to in the comments \u2013 or even better \u2013 if you have a free resource, video, or course that addresses their problem directly, this is a great opportunity to DM them the links directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which can result in lead generation or conversion!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But remember,<strong> <\/strong>while your #1 goal for utilizing social media might be to<strong> grow your revenue\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to social media marketing, you have to prioritize the #1 purpose of social media\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>Which is to build relationships.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So no matter what you&#8217;re putting out there \u2013 images, videos, or ads \u2013 they should <em>always<\/em> be focused on helping first and foremost, NOT selling &amp; pitching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do this and you\u2019ll naturally find that your reach is growing, your audience is active, and your launches are selling out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It truly is a win, win!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To see all these strategies in action, make sure to follow the Copy Posse on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/copyposse\/\">Instagram<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCPEZnYBqewx-h43B5tLymYw\">YouTube<\/a> (my social platforms of choice!)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks so much for reading.
