Anybody can build a large (but crummy!) Twitter following. There are 1,001 \u201chow-to\u2019s\u201d out there that can teach you to do that.<br \/>\nThe difference for my following is that I want Twitter to be a <strong>traffic and lead machine<\/strong> for my business, <a href=\"https:\/\/kimgarst.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boom! Social Media Marketing<\/a>\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0I bet that\u2019s what you want too.<br \/>\nSo, what you probably want to see is my traffic stats for the same period, right? Here you go:<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img2.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img2\" width=\"580\" height=\"227\" \/><br \/>\nYep, you are reading it correctly. In just over 90 days I had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>29 MILLION+ impressions<\/li>\n<li>Over a quarter million engagements<\/li>\n<li>55,000+ link clicks to content, squeeze pages, offers, eBooks, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Guess how much I spent on Twitter Ads to fuel this traffic machine? $0 \u2013 and you can read more about it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/twitter-traffic-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.)<br \/>\nWant to know how much time I spend every day managing my Twitter system?<br \/>\nOne hour!<br \/>\nToday I\u2019m showing you exactly how to do the same. Auto-Schedule Content to Drive Massive Traffic<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I am live on Twitter every day, but I want to spend that time actually engaging with my followers, not posting content.<br \/>\nTo do that I use an auto-scheduler &#8212; Let me say that again, I NEVER automate engagement, just content distribution.<br \/>\nThere are lots of tools out there that do that, but my favorite and \u201cgo to\u201d tool for auto-scheduling the past several years has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialoomph.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SocialOomph<\/a>.<br \/>\nI currently have 9 active queues with over 1,500 pre-written tweets in them. I group tweets by category and have categories for almost everything I do, including sales and marketing!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img3.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img3\" width=\"580\" height=\"272\" \/><br \/>\nWant to know how I stay one of the world\u2019s leading social media bloggers? Traffic!<br \/>\nI use Google Analytics to tell me which of my blog posts are getting the most traffic. Then, I take the top performing ones and put them in a SocialOomph queue and use the software to send one out every 43 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!<br \/>\n(Digital Marketer recently hosted a webinar for their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/lp\/welcome-to-dm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Digital Marketer Lab Members<\/a> on\u00a0using MeetEdgar for social scheduling\u00a0&#8212; check it out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/office-hour\/meet-edgar-how-dm-does-social-media-scheduling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57395\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img4.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img4\" width=\"580\" height=\"193\" \/><br \/>\nOnce the tweet is sent it goes to the bottom of the queue to be sent out again later.<br \/>\nOf course I make sure that the type of content that makes it into this queue is \u201cevergreen\u201d &#8212; content still as relevant today as the day it was written &#8212; and no, I don\u2019t have to worry about coming across as \u201cspammy\u201d because it takes almost 5 days for each blog post to be tweeted once.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. Use Hootsuite to Manage Engagement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Truth be told, I RARELY visit my own Twitter page.<br \/>\nInstead, like over 10 million other Twitters users, I use Hootsuite to manage my engagement.<br \/>\nI have a <a href=\"https:\/\/hootsuite.com\/plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hootsuite Pro<\/a> account that costs me a whopping $8.99\/month. Yes, I do pay for it myself and I have no affiliation whatsoever with Hootsuite. I have tried just about every Twitter account dashboard out there and Hootsuite works the best for my purposes.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img5.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img5\" width=\"580\" height=\"242\" \/><br \/>\nIf you&#8217;re just getting started, set up four streams that will be most useful for keeping an eye on your engagements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retweets,<\/li>\n<li>Mentions,<\/li>\n<li>Inbox<\/li>\n<li>Favorites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I probably spend <strong>30 minutes<\/strong> a day engaging with people directly from this dashboard.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. Use Smart Growth Tools for Smart Growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There are lots of tools out there that can get you Twitter followers.<br \/>\nIf you really do not care about the quality of those followers (or even that they are real people), then you can buy tens of thousands of followers from hundreds of \u201cblack hat\u201d operators for just a couple of hundred dollars.<br \/>\nLet me make this clear &#8212; that&#8217;s a terrible idea!<br \/>\nThose followers are worth absolutely nothing to your business because they will not engage with your content or buy your products and services. In fact, all they might do is get your account <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tos?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shut down<\/a>.<br \/>\nWhat you DO want is <strong>highly-targeted followers<\/strong> who ARE interested in your content and may actually buy from you. More is definitely better when it comes to those types of followers.<br \/>\nI use a tool called <a href=\"https:\/\/manageflitter.com\/pro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ManageFlitter<\/a> to help find and follow the types of Twitter followers I want in my community as well as to get rid of ones I do not. I use the \u201cPro\u201d version of the tool and pay $12\/month. I have no affiliation with the company.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img6.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img6\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" \/><br \/>\nI use ManageFlitter in Power Mode to find Twitter followers.<br \/>\nThere are several things I love about this tool. The first is its filtering ability. I can search by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bio<\/li>\n<li>Name<\/li>\n<li>Competitors<\/li>\n<li>Tweets<\/li>\n<li>Any other criteria<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Doing so really helps me hone in on my ideal community members.<br \/>\nI also like the ability to unfollow people who aren\u2019t following me back in the reverse order that I followed them, meaning that I unfollow the people who have had the longest to follow me back but did not first.<br \/>\nUnfollowing is an important growth strategy for most people on Twitter, especially users with new or smaller communities &#8212; why?<br \/>\nTwitter only allows you to follow up to 2,000 people before you hit a follower limit. To get beyond that you must have more people follow you than you follow (with a 10% variance allowed). If you are following people who are not ever going to follow you back that prevents you from following other people who WILL follow you back.<br \/>\nThe result: your growth gets stalled.<br \/>\nFinally, I really like their processing service&#8230;<br \/>\nFor a very small amount of money they will actually process the different actions I set the software up to perform over time so I am not violating Twitter\u2019s Terms of Service. That saves me a ton of time and worry.<br \/>\nVery cool, right?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. Build Awesome Graphics in the Blink of an Eye!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a riddle for you:<br \/>\nWhich of the two strikes your eye and which are you more likely to engage with?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-57397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/twitter-leads-one-hour-img7.jpg\" alt=\"twitter-leads-one-hour-img7\" width=\"580\" height=\"510\" \/><br \/>\nThe one with the graphic was retweeted 22 times and favorited 26 times. The one without the graphic was retweeted only 6 times and favorited just 5 times.<br \/>\nTweets with graphics almost always outperform those without.<br \/>\nI have a design background and 10 years ago the graphic above would have taken me a couple of hours to make. This one took my 5 minutes.<br \/>\nHow did I do that? I used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Canva<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong><br \/>\nThere are lots of graphic-building tools on the market now but Canva has the best combination of price, quality and selection. I also love that they have templates specifically sized for Twitter and other social media sites.<br \/>\n(Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/design-facebook-ad-images\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a> by Britney Arkin for creating Facebook ads with Canva.)<br \/>\nSo, that\u2019s it!
